Yasmeen Melius’ practice is focused on the bond between photography and writing in which she explores the human condition, memory, trace, presence and absence. With the influence of philosophy, narrative and personal experiences her work aims to increase the dynamic between both artist and viewer through expression while investigating the duality that develops through different interpretations. The fusion of delicate surfaces and raw subjects enables the viewer to reflect on both themselves and the subject with the hope of creating space to evoke important conversations and share our stories with one another.
Where is your shrine?
Is it possible transform catastrophe into remedy?
How do you make room for the future you?
What could all this be a germinating ground for?
How do you envisage our inverted world’s future?
Offer up a lament as an act of collective memory.
What does your emotional self say?
Open the doorway to a different temporality.
How do we galvanise love and tend to spirit during times of uncertainty?
Remember something you won’t take for granted again.
